Masterplan to help disabled fit in from young age

Mr Edwin Khoo, 35, was born blind. Yet he can fix computers, send text messages, use iPhone apps, and take the bus to work by himself.

Things may get even easier for him if the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports accepts the recommendations in the Enabling Masterplan 2012-2016 - essentially the national blueprint for disability services for the next five years.

The committee behind it hopes the disabled can be integrated into the larger community as early in life as possible. The masterplan's suggestions include improving the accessibility of transportation services for the disabled.

Added Mr Khoo: “I like that the masterplan considers the preschool and schooling experiences of the disabled."
